As one of the key retail periods looms, retailers are being advised to consider the potential benefits that drone delivery services could bring to their businesses in future.
New insight from global data news platform RetailTechNews reveals that approximately 25% of shoppers would select drone delivery for their online shopping, if the option was available.
The report stated: “Technology could also have implications for supply chain and distribution. More than a quarter of consumers would actively choose drone delivery over other delivery options if it was offered, both for ease and because they see drones as cool and exciting.
“Retailers need to get ahead of these trends and work out which technologies could deliver value for their customers and their business.”
While unmanned aerial technology is predicted to continue its upward trend in the coming years, many major retailers are currently exploring the potential to add UAV delivery to its arsenal.
One of the companies in the early stages of rolling out the service is Amazon Prime. At the end of last year it was reported that the online-based retailer had successfully made its first commercial delivery using a drone, in the UK.
The Amazon Prime Air package arrived safely at its destination in Cambridge, 13 minutes after being ordered.
