Counter-drone company D-Fend welcomes former head of FAA to board

Michael Huerta D-fend

D-Fend Solutions, which specialises in counter-drone technology, has signed the former administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to its advisory board.

Michael Huerta, also currently on the board for Delta Air Lines, will bring years of industry experience in aviation safety and security to the role.

Thus, D-Fend said, he will assist in its rapid growth, contributing to the company’s market leadership in the counter small unmanned aircraft systems (C-sUAS) security solutions space for airports and other sensitive environments in the US.

Huerta was the administrator of the FAA from December 2011 to January 2018, where he was responsible for overseeing the safety and productivity of the largest aerospace administration in the world, managing a budget of $16 billion (£12.6 billion) and more than 47,000 employees.

He also has nearly three decades of experience with airport and airspace safety, and helped oversee the National Airspace System (NAS).

“I’m thrilled to join the D-Fend Solutions team and collaborate on solutions for a more safe and secure air space,” Huerta said. “Security agencies are recognizing the need for new solutions for sensitive environments without the drawbacks of conventional jamming and kinetic technologies.

“D-Fend is an early leader and pioneer in counter drone systems with its one of a kind RF cyber takeover, control, and safe landing technology, which will become increasingly important to deliver control, safety, and continuity to airports worldwide as drones proliferate.”
