Bosses behind the postal service in Cyprus are making plans to implement a drone delivery parcel service by the end of the year.
According to Andreas Gregoriou, director of the Department of Postal Services, the country hopes to at least have a pilot program by the end of 2019 with more specific terms in place for the start of next year.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, he said: “We are at a very satisfactory level to see how we can utilise this new technology in order to render the Cyprus postal services more effective and enable them to deliver correspondence, in particular parcels and small packages on time.”
The department is in contact with researchers at the University of Cyprus Kios Research Centre as part of the plans.
Gregooriou went on to describe how, when they are in a position to utilise drones for parcel delivery this year, all plans would be in line with civil aviation regulations.
