DJI appoints former FAA and Facebook manager to public policy department


Leading drone manufacturer DJI has appointed David Hansell as public policy manager.

He joins from his role with Facebook, where he served in a similar position.

Hansell is experienced in the aviation sector, having previously worked as director for transportation security policy in the executive office of the president under the Obama administration.

Prior to that he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a national security liaison, where he was responsible for evaluating intelligence and information and identifying current or potential terrorist, insurgent, criminal and cyber threats.

At DJI, Hansell will be in charge of developing drone law and regulation within the company. He said: “Drones have opened up the skies for businesses, governments, nonprofits, academics and everyone who enjoys seeing the world from above, and the people who use drones regularly understand the importance of a strong regulatory system to support their work.”

He added: “I’m excited that my experience in addressing security concerns, integrating drones into the airspace and explaining drone technology will allow me to advocate for laws and regulations that will allow America to get the most from drone technology.”
