DroneDeploy hits one million automated drone flights milestone

DroneDeploy has confirmed that its customers have conducted more than one million automated drone flights around the world.

The San Francisco-based commercial drone software firm referenced how its customer base, which exceeds 4,000, has made the milestone possible by using aerial data powered smarter workflows in industries as diverse as construction, agriculture, energy, and emergency management.

Across a number of different industries, DroneDeploy has helped its customers map more than 40 million acres across 180 countries.

Mike Winn, CEO at DroneDeploy, commented on how last year was especially good.

He said: “2018 was the most successful year for DroneDeploy and the entire commercial drone industry. We are proud to have helped our customers conduct more than 1 million flights and are setting our sights even higher in 2019.”

DroneDeploy put the success seen in 2018 down to how it got dozens of leading construction companies on board and described how it now serves hundreds of top-ranked contractors including Brasfield and Gorrie, Jacobs, Layton Construction, McCarthy Building Companies, Skanska, and Sundt Construction.

The company went on to detail how growth is in large part due to the falling cost of commercial drone hardware and massive software innovations that drive measurable value for companies using drones to gather aerial information.

It hopes that with further regulatory changes expected from the FAA in 2019, the drone industry will see another year of growth.
