Epic drone fleet poised to dethrone Intel as world record holder

A new champion could be crowned the Guinness World Record holder for the most UAVs flown simultaneously as a new challenger has squared up to Intel’s record-breaking fleet.

Chinese drone specialist Ehang claims it has broken the world record for simultaneous drone operations with its 13-minute display over the City Wall of Xi’an, which featured 1,374 UAVs.

Intel broke the record in February this year with a display of 1,218 drones, surpassing its own record of 500 drones flown simultaneously in Germany in 2016.

As well as scooping a Guinness World Record, the company was also the first to provide a drone performance as part of a Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony.

While Ehang reports it clinched the record, it is yet to be verified. South China Morning Post, wrote that the event was “an epic fail” as some of the drones failed to illuminate, meaning Intel could still be wearing the crown.

A video of the performance can be found below.
