F-drone has completed the very first beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) commercial delivery flights in Singapore, the company has announced.
The operation consisted of a delivery of 2kg of vitamins over 2.7km in seven minutes.
The payload was taken to a ship managed by Eastern Pacific Shipping, one of the world’s largest privately-owned ship managers and F-drones’ first paying customer.
As well as being the first to conduct such a delivery in Singapore, F-drone was also the first to receive authorisation from the government’s aviation authority.
The company is so far only allowed to make deliveries to ships in this specific area, but it hopes to expand its remit.
F-drones is a startup founded only a year ago, utilising autonomous electric drones.
It hopes to one day be able to send payloads of 100kg on journeys over 100km.
“Traditional means of transport are expensive, slow, and labour- and carbon-intensive. F-drones’ solutions can help save up to 80% of the costs, time and CO2 emissions. Besides being efficient, delivery drones can also reduce unnecessary human contact amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Nicolas Ang, CEO of F-drones.
