A new marinised UAV, named Fulmar, has been created by Spanish manufacturer Wake Engineering and partner UAV Navigation.

The UAV, Wake claims, is unique in that it can be launched from land or ship and lands in a fixed net.

Fulmar is already in use by, among others, the Spanish Army.

It boasts a three-metre wingspan, flight time of between six and 12 hours, a MTOW of 20kg, and an 80km range.

The movement of a sea-based landing zone also requires an extremely precise flight control system on the marinised UAV, which is why UAV Navigation, also a Spanish company, was brought in.

Wake, formerly known as Aerovision, has announced the extension of its partnership with UAV Navigation due to the success of Fulmar.

Borja Comino, CEO of Wake Engineering, commented: “What I appreciate the most about working with UAV Navigation is how they listen to us, gather our requirements and meet the planned deadlines.

“UAV Navigation has been instrumental in improving Fulmar’s performance so far and we are definitely looking forward to strengthening our collaboration in the future.”
