After securing a place on a US Army and Department of Defence programme in early 2019, Parrot has taken another step towards completing the contract, partnering with NEOTech for US-based manufacture of a new drone.
Along with five other commercial drone manufacturers, Europe-based Parrot was selected in April 2019 to develop short-range reconnaissance drones for the US Army and the Defence Innovation Unit.
Now near the final stages of the project, Parrot will participate in an operational assessment to support an Army production award decision, and will begin manufacturing prototypes of its dedicated drone in the US.
To manufacture the drone on US soil, Parrot has partnered with NEOTech, an electronics manufacturer with over 40 years of experience in sectors like aerospace and defence, as well as medical products.
Parrot aims to deliver its final prototype batch in July 2020.
Parrot’s vice president of security and defence, Laurent Rouchon, commented: “Parrot is honoured to work with the Department of Defence on this highly strategic project.
“We have successfully met the high standards set over the last 12 months on the prototype efforts and we look forward to entering this final phase and launching production in the USA.”
