A plastic eating aquatic drone has started a series of trials for the first time in the UK.
The WasteShark is an autonomous water drone designed to eat and clear waste.
The device can consume up to 1kg of waste per minute and has a battery life of up to eight hours travelling via programmed GPS points.
According to Sky News, it has already been successfully operated in five countries, including South Africa and the UAE before its debut in the UK.
It has been created by RanMarine Technology, and is meant to be harmonious with the environment, causing no harm to wildlife.
As well as cleaning up waste and pest plants, it can collect data about the marine environment.
It has been deployed by the WWF and Sky at Ilfracombe Harbour in Devon.
