Police order drone pilot onto training course after flight deemed “complete invasion of privacy”


Police in Swindon have sent a man onto a drone training course after his flight was deemed a “complete invasion of privacy.”

The 50-year-old man is reported to have flown his drone over businesses and homes in Cirencester in the spring.

The Swindon Advertiser explained how the footage of the flight was later posted online.

The authorities in Gloucestershire had already addressed the rogue flying, but now have released more information and condemned the man’s actions.

A spokesman for the force said: “The drone came within just a few metres of some properties and was a complete invasion of their privacy and also causing much upset as private areas of the houses were at the time on the internet for all to see.”

While PC Ash Weller said he had seen an increase in drone usage in the area.

He added: “Drones are becoming more popular, they are good fun and a great tool to get some incredible videos or pictures. However they can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.”
