Mark Lawton, as part of his career within the construction industry, has assisted in the building of many large civil engineering projects covering highways, tunnels, rail, oil and gas refineries and water treatment plants.
He gained Chartered Engineer status through the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineers and uses his experience and knowledge to assist academia in the education of Engineering survey, and how it is used in industry.
At present, he is the lead engineering survey manager on Highways England’s largest road project – a 30km bypass and improvement scheme with over 70 structures.
As part of his work, he has deployed a variety of geospatial technologies to improve the efficiency, quality and safety of tasks.
Ahead of this year’s Commercial UAV Show ahead of his talk, Mark said: “The new technology of drones and the specific payload they carry is changing the way we survey, record and make safer sites. This is either via media grade drones or survey grade drones in my working environment.”
