PrecisionHawk and Skylogic Research have confirmed that a soon-to-be-published whitepaper will highlight the benefits of using drones for BVLOS operations.
The whitepaper will describe how BVLOS can be beneficial across a wide variety of industries.
More specifically, the report will detail how the economics of BVLOS compare with visual-line-of-sight drone operations, as well as more traditional methods such as manual inspections or the use of manned aircraft.
Key findings include how one oil company using drones reduced well pad inspection costs by approximately 66%, from around £60-£70 ($80-$00) per well pad, to around £34-£45 ($45-$60) per pad and through the use of BVLOS drone-based data collection, one insurer estimated they could save 20% on costs associated with claims adjustment.
Additionally, one estimate showed that flying drones BVLOS costs £150-£230 ($200-$300) per mile compared to helicopter flights that cost an average of £910-£1,200 per mile.
