A people smuggler has been arrested after a surveillance drone in the English Channel identified the boat heading for English shores.
Rebwar Ahmed, who has since been arrested, was piloting a craft carrying 20 other people.
UK Border Force was able to detain the boat, next taking it to Dover, Kent.
Ahmed, from Iraq, was jailed for two years and seven months yesterday.
According to the BBC, the Home Office revealed that he was the second person sentenced in the past few weeks in a case where drone footage was used.
It was first announced that drones would be used for the purpose of tracking illegal immigrants across the Channel late last year.
This came after a spike in cases, when Border Force discovered 111 people in the space of week.
