Uber is eyeing up food delivery by drone as early as 2021, according to its latest job vacancy.
A new job advertisement says the company is looking for an operations executive who can help make delivery drones functional as soon as next year.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Uber is hoping the new role could make drones commercially operational in multiple markets by 2021.
The role advertised described how the new employee would look to ‘enable safe, legal, efficient and scalable flight operations’, giving reference to UberExpress, an internal name used for the drone delivery operation within its UberEats prepared-food delivery unit.
However, following an inquiry from The Wall Street Journal, Uber removed the job listing titled ‘Flight Standards and Training’ from its site.
A spokesman told the New York-based newspaper that the posting “does not fully reflect our program, which is still in very early days.”
